Shoot the Cake

About

My photojournalism mentor once said, “It isn’t just about making pretty photographs, It is about telling a story.” I have taken this lesson to heart and still use this as my guide for every wedding. So whether your wedding is a tiny backyard ceremony, a destination wedding, resort wedding or something in between—my goal is always making great photographs that tell your story.

Using both film and digital cameras, and relying on my twelve years of experience I capture your wedding with the same focus as I do my assignments, while remaining unobtrusive.

Since 1997, I have photographed weddings across the country; weddings by the sea, in the desert, in the city, on a boat and on a train, wedding with 250 guests and weddings where I was the only witness. Each of these has taught me something about weddings but also the craft of photography. I know that fun couples and fun weddings help produce fun creative photographs. And perhaps more importantly I've learned that by limiting the number of weddings I accept each year that my eyes stay fresh and I am able to remember all of my clients names, even years later.

Shoot The Cake is not a studio -- it’s Dorie. For the past 12 years the same person who answer your emails, your phone calls and meets with you about your wedding is the same person who will be there to photograph on the day of your wedding--no surprises, no substitutes.

My work has been published in Sports Illustrated, New Mexico Magazine, Mothering Magazine, The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, The Denver Post, The Albuquerque Journal and others. I also have a monthly photo column called “Viewfinder” in my local paper, The Taos News.
